The Centre for the Comparative Studies of the Americas (CESCAM), in conjunction with the Callaghan Centre, the Richard Burton Archives and the South Wales Miners’ Library, was delighted to welcome eminent historian Paul Preston to Swansea on the 12th of July.
Professor Preston delivered a lecture to mark the 75th anniversary of the Spanish Civil War, entitled ‘The Spanish Holocaust: Hate and Extermination in the Spanish Civil War’. The lecture was followed by a reception at Swansea University Library, during which audience members had the opportunity to view some of the archival materials it holds on the Spanish Civil War.
Professor Preston is the Príncipe de Asturias Professor of Contemporary Spanish Studies and Director of the Cañada Blanch Centre for Contemporary Spanish Studies at the European Institute at the London School of Economics. He has published a number of important studies, including The Spanish Civil War: Reaction Revolution and Revenge, and a recent biography of Franco.
